It is unlawful to dispose of yard waste in the Borough Yard. Yard waste, as described below and collected by the Rosslyn Farms Street Department, will be disposed of at composting facilities in other municipalities. Our access to these facilities is dependent on Rosslyn Farms adhering to these rules.
Yard waste is picked up every Monday morning. Items accepted for pick up are leaves, sticks/branches 3 inches or less in diameter, and garden trimmings, which must all be placed in separate piles. Items NOT accepted are grass clippings, garbage, rocks, dirt, and materials left over from home improvement projects. Contractors must remove all debris they create.
Leaves and other materials must be placed in separate piles near the street. Sticks and branches 3 inches or less in diameter should be left as long as possible and placed in separate piles so they can be easily fed into the chipper.
Fall leaf pickup has no set schedule. The leaves should be raked into long rows close to the street to enable the leaf vacuum to easily reach them.
The Borough recycles all yard waste. Compost, leaf mulch and wood chips are available for residents.
Contact the Street Department (412-279-8108) with any questions or for more information.
Acceptable Items:

Leaves should be placed near the edge of pavement in rows for easy pick-up with the leaf vacuum. Small amounts of leaves may be placed in open-topped containers not to exceed a total weight of 40 pounds.
Branches and Limbs
Branches must not exceed 3 inches in diameter. For ease of chipping, place all branches in the same direction near the edge of the pavement.
Residents are responsible for all branches greater than 3 inches in diameter. If you have a professional tree service for pruning or tree removal they are responsible to dispose of all materials generated by the service.
Brush cuttings and Weeds
Brush cuttings and weeds should be placed at the edge of pavement for easy pick-up with a pitchfork. Brush cuttings and weeds may also be
placed in open-topped containers not to exceed a total weight of 40 pounds.
Christmas Trees
Christmas trees should be placed near the edge of the pavement.

NO grass clippings
NO stones, dirt or animal waste

Grass clippings will NOT be picked up by the Street Department. Grass clippings should be disposed of in garbage bags and left out during regular garbage pickup. Please do not allow your mower to blow grass clippings into the street as they will be washed into the storm sewers and ultimately to the creeks and streams. If you have a professional lawn service, they are responsible to collect and dispose of grass clippings from your yard.
